Janet Southcott grew up in the Yorkshire Dales area of northern England. Her family loved natural history, and through countless fungus forays and hikes over hills, Janet loved finding the small yet beautiful nuances of her environment. Her uncle is a professional artist who taught students in the art of watercolour, and from a young age Janet realized a life in art was possible.
Janet’s work takes the viewer on a natural history tour like no other. She exposes the intimate, beautiful abundance of life most of us miss. She asks us to slow down, notice what we have been blind to, and sows seeds for a greater respect for this world we live in. “I used to believe everybody saw what I do, yet I see now people don’t.
