Friendship – friendship and the love of art brought Laura Balducci and Angie (AJ) Davey together to collaborate and create for this year’s qathet Studio Tour. The two have been friends for over 15 years and besides featuring their own works during the Studio Tour, they will showcase three new multi-media collaborations. Laura and Angie found working together surprisingly easy with concept, colour palette, and composition falling into place almost effortlessly.
For their pop-up gallery in the main lobby of the Rodmay Hotel in Townsite, Laura will be spinning her signature locally-sourced fibre to share the experience and technique of spinning fibre to yarn. There will be a selection of ready-to-use and/or ready-to-display yarn cakes in a variety of colours, handcrafted wearable knitted items like wool necklaces and scarves, and felted flowers which can add a unique touch to a larger art creation or become a bouquet for home or for gifting.
Many of Angie’s acrylics are based on her photography and are atmospheric, arresting, and sometimes moody, with her preference for rich, dark backgrounds and vibrant contrasts. She aims to evoke an emotional response through her art as a form of storytelling.
