Using varieties of willow that Dawn has grown herself, she embraces the full circle of her artistic process: from the planting of cuttings years before, to the finished work. And whether fashioning a traditional basket using ancient methods, or free-styling a new piece with willow, leather, and wood, she always works from a place of curiosity and fun. Every piece that emerges will be one-of-a-kind, last for generations and, not least, replace a cheap and environmentally unsound imitation.
Dawn’s credentials include studying under some of the most renowned basketmakers in the world. It is a knowledge she loves to share; hence in addition to weaving commissions and gallery items, she offers regular private and group instruction to both new and experienced weavers. Her work as mentor and teacher is in high demand.
