Lund

Roisin Sheehy-Culhane’s woolly journey began when Grandmother Rose taught her continental style knitting at age six in Vancouver. Fast forward several years and the family re-located to her father’s home in Ireland. Garry, Roisin’s father introduced her to a weaving studio in Glengarriff, Co. Cork. Access to the studio was through the front door of a pub, out the back door, up at least 20 steps carved into a huge rock to a corrugated iron shed perched on top. Inside, wafting of lanolin rich sheep pelts, a woolly extravaganza was on display. Bicycle wheels rigged up for spinning, rich coloured skeins hanging everywhere, looms, dye vats and bolts of tweed cloth.

Roisin began knitting Irish Aran Sweaters at age twelve. Many years of knitting and designing for family and friends, fast forward again many decades to 2010 and

Roisin, now living in Lund, has opened Great Balls of Wool in Powell River. From this location she further honed her woolly creativity, teaching classes, workshops, creating her own patterns and designs, and learning from local knitting artisans. This retail store closed after 13 years in business and re-located to her studio in Lund where you can visit and catch up with Roisin on her most recent woolly journey.
